“If you can, I highly recommend you do jump on this opportunity. I drove 6hrs round trip from the states to attend and found it well worth it. I had a great time, Matt has a wealth of information to share. Do come ready with your questions to make the most of this opportunity. Picked up many great tips and put them to immediate use capturing fantastic images of the couple. Thanks for offering these workshops Matt and the price is a bargain!”

How much does it cost?

Couples – 1 hour session – $375

If you’re looking for a great portrait session, but money is a big factor holding you back, then you’ll be happy that I’ve found a way to offer my portrait sessions at more than 50% off! This means that you’ll get a full session, exactly as it would have been normally, but with 2 or 3 other photographers tagging along to learn how I photograph couple’s sessions. These photographers will be taking pictures as well, and a few times throughout the session I will let them take the lead for a few minutes so they can practice. With this type of session workshop I will most likely deliver 80-120 photos.

These sessions are currently only available for couple’s sessions, families and other types of sessions may be added in the future.

Photographers – 1 hour session and 1 hour Q&A – $375

If you’re a photographer and are looking to improve your shooting skills technically and artistically, then there’s no better way to learn than on the job. You’ll shadow me as I do a regular portrait session, and throughout I will be talking about why I’m doing certain things, how I’m managing to get the images I have in my mind, and I’ll be showing you what to look for on your own couple’s sessions. We will start with a preparation session for about half an hour before the couple arrives so I can get a good understanding of where you’re at currently, and what you want to learn. Then when the couple is ready, we will start shooting as I normally would for a couple’s session. It will be fast paced, but I will always leave time for questions and space for you to shoot the same things I’m shooting. After the session, we will debrief so I can answer questions that you have from the shoot, and make sure that everything makes sense so you leave confident and ready for your next session.

What will the timeline of the session look like?

Typical timeline – 1 hour photo session

4:30 Photographers meet at location and prepare

5:00 Start session with couple

6:00 Couple is done and Photographers debrief

6:30 Photographers are done

Typical timeline – 2 hour photo session

5:30 Photographers arrive at first location and prepare

6:00 Start session with couple

6:50 Drive to second location – Couple changes outfits

7:00 Shooting at second location 8:00 Couple is done and Photographers debrief

8:30 Photographers are done

What gear should I bring?

Whatever you would normally shoot a session with would be what you should bring. I suggest the following, but of course you don’t have to have all of these:

Professional Camera Portrait Lens (35, 50 or 85mm) wide angle lens (anywhere from 14-24mm) zoom lens (70-200mm) external flash fresh batteries and enough memory cards only 1 bag so you’re very mobile

no tripod needed unless we are doing sparkler photos as well (pre-arranged) no umbrellas or light stands needed no reflectors needed

Who is this for?

This is for couples who want great photos of themselves together, but who want a cheaper option than my standard portrait rates. If you care about quality over quantity, then you’re in the right place!

This is for photographers who want to learn how to run their portrait sessions better, and who want to learn and practice techniques that they haven’t tried before. If you’re looking to boost your business by becoming better at your craft, then you’re in the right place!

How and when do I get my images? Do I get images from the other photographers?

You will receive your images in the same way that all of my clients receive their images, through your own personal web gallery and mobile app. This means that your photos will be safe and accessible in the cloud for 10 years, and you are able to download, print, and share the photos anytime from anywhere. You photos will be ready within 2 weeks of your session.

The photos that the other photographers take during the session will not be available because of the logistics and extra work that is involved in coordinating that. For this reason, I will ensure that I shoot everything that is going on in the session so no certain moment or location is missed in your gallery.

Will my photos be used by the other photographers in their portfolio online?

Maybe. By joining this workshop session, you are allowing these photographers the right to take and display your photos for their marketing purposes. However, they do not have the permission to display your name next to the photo, nor to tag you on Facebook with any of their posts. If you do not want to have your photos shared online in any portfolios, then you can book a session with just me at regular price where your photos will be completely safe and private, for your use only.

Can I use these photos for my photography portfolio?

Yes, you can use the photos you take for your portfolio. However, you cannot use the names of the people in the photos, nor can you tag them when sharing the photos on Facebook or any other social media outlet. When blogging about the session, it is expected that you do not claim this to be your own portrait session, but to mention the fact that this was a workshop that you attended.

How do I book my spot?

Couples and Photographers – You can email carissa@mattkennedy.ca to get the upcoming session times and they are filled on a first come first served basis. You book your session by placing a $100 non-refundable, non-transferrable deposit down on your chosen date through email money transfer. You can pay the balance at any time before the date of your session. Please do not expect to bring money on the day of the session. You can also pay the full balance when you first choose your date, and $100 will be the only non-refundable, non-transferrable portion of the payment.
