Behind the Scenes 2016

What a year!! 2016 brought us some fun trips, great weddings, and even better couples to hang with on their big days! It’s not always as glamorous as it may seem, though…sometime’s we’re hot sweaty messes! Sometimes we get in each other’s shots…

Well, we wanted to share with you a bit of the “behind the scenes” of our year!

Sometimes I like to be able to just tug their faces into the place I want them 😉

I spy with my little eye…

We wear MANY hats on a wedding day…
Professional train holder…
and hairstylist…
and boutonniere pinner…
Candle lighter…but seriously, look at that skill, DUAL LIGHTERS
Sometimes it’s dangerous to make it look windy…
Didn’t quite work out for Carissa in those shoes…
So we brought in the reinforcements…he nailed it!
Sometimes we need a little help getting the kids to look towards the camera for family photos
This guy really helped!
He was pretty much the best assistant ever…he carried my bags, helped me change lenses…so I figured I might as well let him take a few shots too!
We LOVE long trains!
Then there was that time that we photographed Carissa’s cousin’s wedding and our kids happened to be there 🙂
Gracie may have to take over the family business in the future
I’m sure Kaitlyn will help her when the time comes too!
I really have no idea what she was telling me here…but it doesn’t matter…she’s always just way too cute!

Then there was the time that Carissa photographed a wedding as lead photographer!!

I’m telling ya….something’s rubbing off on her!

The best part about these destination weddings is getting to take some time for us as a couple…SeaDoo rental for the win!
We also get to eat at some fun places like this Italian pizza restaurant at Sparkling Hill
I think this is why it’s called Sparkling Hill! Take me back!!
Sometimes I wonder why I don’t just stand like a normal person…is it really that different of an angle when I squat?? OK, yes it is…but man do my legs hurt after a full day of this!
Sometimes Carissa donates her flats to the bride so she can walk in tough terrain…which means someone has to pick up the slack…
We shot a fun wedding with some great people that carissa used to work with!
Then there’s Mexico. Oh Mexico! Trust me guys…our job is hard!

Then there was that time that we walked 30 minutes along the beach to get to the cool rocks!
and when they rented a beautiful white horse for some awesome shots along the beach! What a dream!!
Sometimes I think I find places to go just for the fun of it…probably didn’t need to climb up there 🙂

Sometimes we let the video guys take over posing…sometimes 😉

I still can’t believe she doesn’t use a camera strap and just holds onto her camera the whole day! She’s going to have such buff arms!

One time the kids met us for dinner after an afternoon wedding at this cool restaurant that has a beach volleyball court in the back!
We even made it out to Nashville to hang with some of our closest friends in the industry!
We’re pretty spoiled to have such talented and amazing friends!
And some of the best students and friends in the world!! We LOVE our Academy peeps!
Justin and Mary rocking out our joint workshop in Arizona!
These people are changing lives by the way they live their lives…inspiring to say the least!
Sometimes we have to get in front of the camera even! Maybe I should put a memory card in…
Webinars are super fun for me! Talking to people around the world like they’re in the room with me! So crazy!
It’s all about getting the light right…which means sometimes you have to stand on wiggly rocks!
I’m pretty sure I’m standing on top of a hand rail in the one on the right…dance moves and everything
Walking backward UP a vineyard row…is NOT easy
We usually bring little white sandals to weddings with us so we can give them to the Bride when they need a break from the heels!
Then there was that time in Mexico where Carissa got stung on the foot and I had to get the stinger out!
SURPRISE!
We also got to go to a marriage retreat with other couple’s in business together…it was an incredible week!
I’m pretty sure if I took off my shirt it would look like that anyways…just more tanned…
I also built a fun new backdrop in my old office so I can use it for video projects…here’s my little helper
We got to ride in a fun sea-plane to head over to Vancouver Island…I got to co-pilot!
Who needs the veil anyways?!
Then there was the wedding where 5 kids got trapped in the elevator for almost an hour!! Don’t worry, they got out safe…but one of the kids had to pee so bad that he ended up going in the corner! Poor kid!!

This was a little stop we made on the trip back from our LAST WEDDING OF THE YEAR! Ending off with a little celebration of a great year!
